The secretariat is keen in equipping young people with Knowledge and skills that will help transition to a green economy, and one way of achieving that is through building technical and knowledge competence that brings about change.
As one of the recent concepts across different sectors, green economy has been poorly conceptualized; as a result the opportunities it presents has not been be fully harnessed. Green growth is a critical hardware for achieving sustainable development, and unless it is well understood by young people who will take charge in various sectors of the economy then, realization of full implementation of green economy mainstreaming strategies into the different sectors will be difficult. Our capacity building programme aims to support young people in the formal and informal sectors, young leaders, youth related institutions, policy makers and private sector partners to realize the opportunities available in the green economy sectors and what is there role towards achieving a sustainable future.
The programme has developed a green economy knowledge and capacity building tool that helps young people to learn the basics about green economy. The tool supports learners to develop positive attitude towards environmental conservation and protection, concept development and implementation. The capacity building and knowledge sharing programme helps to address knowledge gaps in the green economy sectors as Kenya transitions.
Our capacity development programme uses grassroots’ based approach that seeks to promote a bottom up approach to the application of the concept of a green economy, and help build resilient communities across the country. The capacity building programme builds on the devolved systems under the constitution of Kenya to initiate a process of dialogue towards prioritizing green investments and creation of green enterprises that supports the creation of green and decent jobs for young people.
